Rolling Stone had John Lennon ahead of Robbie Robertson in its greatest guitarists of all time.I don’ t remember Lennon playing guitar like this.

Clapton tended to overplay; Robertson did subtle licks that blended in with The Band. This duel is essentially silly wankery.

Eric and Robbie are 2 different kinds of players, Robbie and Jimmy Page were more gritty, visceral or “sloppy”, Beck and Clapton have a “cleaner” sound
